The Way to Cook: Julia Child started it all
This one started the whole cooking craze. When we got married, I didn’t really know how to cook. My mom took good care of me and all my life prior to Tom was school, school, school. Tom has never put any pressure on me to cook, or serve, or deliver. He really prides his independence. It’s just got me that he knows how to cook and I don’t. So I started.
The disasters of the beginning will eventually become separate stories. Thinking back, maybe the frequency and the degree of those disasters gave Tom an idea to put this book under the Christmas tree.
The book did not impress me as everything in it was so plain and usual. Mom did something similar. Tom’s mother seemed to have been doing the same stuff. Bo-ring!.. I was looking for unusual ingredients, exciting presentations, and glitter. Don’t get me wrong, the book was used over and over. But it took years for the true appreciation to grow. Now it’s my go to source no matter what’s the plan.
This step by step classic is a must for anyone who like cooking. I am yet to find a better and more clear step by step presentation.
This was my New Year’s staple for years. My mother always went off her way to get a goose for the holidays even during the challenging years of Soviet Perestroika. And her cooking method always depended on the quality of the goose. I was never interested in the process and only vaguely remember her description of it. Recreating her presentation is still work progress for me. But this book helps.
This one has become my go to when there’s no time to make dinner. Now, I can make it in my sleep. Happy coincidence, it’s one of my girls’ favorite,
At times, I got brave enough to edit the Master.
My Christmas Spectacular, Easter Miracle, New Year’s Surprise, Mother’s/Father’s Day coverup. And go to when there are guests to impress.
And this is my personal favorite. It calls to serve two but I’ve mutilated it to serve four, six, and eight. The results have never been consistent, but never disappointing.
